I ran a 92 Fast Strike I bought new. I sold the boat to a friend and it is still running at LOZ on a daily basis. All these years with no serious problems and always on regular gas.

Regular fuel!! Wooohoooo Thanks Loz. Thats what I was hoping to hear. Did you run any kind of additive?

May I suggest running non-ethanol fuel if it is available in your area. Not sure how old the boat is the motor is attached to, but the ethanol fuel can cause problems with the fuel tanks on older boats. Dont remember the exact year, but it seems like it was prior to 1993.

Regular is probably ok, Just make sure you buy it from big name stations like Chevron, Shell, etc… those that have detergent in them. My uncle has had his rebuilt twice (blown powerhead, late 80s early 90s Yamaha 150) and the mech. asked him the second time if he was buying cheap gas and he was… told him to buy better gas w/ cleaner in it and he wont have any more problems and he hasnt since… so thats what I buy. I dont know about Johnsons but my local mechanic told me there is no advantage in running anything other than regular in a Mercury Optimax. I do still use non ethanol fuel when I can………

I didnt run additives and my friend hasnt either. He did switch to a Pennzoil blend for older outboards some years ago. I dont know if that helps the motor life or not. The engine has to have well into a couple of thousand hours of use in 20 yrs. As I said, he fishes almost everyday.

I bought a new 150 faststrike in 98 and ran it for 14 years on regular gas. No problems, but I ran additive in it for the ethanol. Sold it to a guy in our club and hes still running it with 500+ hours on it.

Those were some good engines. I had a 92 Sabre with a 92 Evinrude Intruder.
