Hey guys I just bought an hds 8 and am trying to figure out how to mount it on my 2000 cougar. Ive seen lots of different mounts on other models but never on a older cougar. I dont have the luxury of returning a RAM mount where I live, everything is via internet in my neck of the woods. Id really like to have a solid game plan before I go ordering a mount. I sure would appreciate any ideas.
Mark, is it going up front or on the console? I dont know if yours has a handrail or not, but heres my HDS 10 on the rail.Last edited by mike dominick on January 8th, 2012, 11:06 pm, edited 1 time in total.
The arm is about 6 inches, I made the shock absorber from a boat trailer Y stop, then cut it to fit. Heres a link to the Y stop. Mikehttp://www.etrailer.com/B…ton-Lainson/DL21732.html
Mike – I am interested in your set-up and mount on the rail. Ive wanted to add another unit at the console – probably an HDS8. What RAM mount and base are you using? Does the weight of the unit shift the HDS 10 on the rail in rough water? Thanks in advance for your insight!PatrickLast edited by PIV Patrick on January 9th, 2012, 12:14 am, edited 1 time in total.
It was a 1.5 ball rail mount, I dont remember what model. I put a set screw in the side and with the shock absorber it doesnt move much. If its really rough I dont use it while running, I think an 8 would be fine there. I would rather have hard mounted it, but I couldnt access anywhere to do it. Other guys have done it by taking out the cleat and using that area. The rail mount has worked on my PIV, and on my 02 Jag with a 900 series Hbird. Mike
Thanks Mike, what did you use for the base of the RAM mount. The others Ive seen just had U bolts and rubber. It looks like you have something other than just that? I think this is how Im gonna mount it. I really didnt want to drill into the cap of my hull like others Ive seen.
Its a RAM base, I tried to find it on their website, but I dont see it.I think i found it.http://www.sportsmansguid…a-202-base.aspx?a=262994Last edited by mike dominick on January 9th, 2012, 12:58 am, edited 1 time in total.
