HDS 8 mounting location

2006 Sabre with HDS 8 on 2.25" ball mounted on hand rail in gunnel. I noticed that the rivets are becoming loose in the center of the rail from the weight of the 8 wanting to rotate the rail when travelling in rough water. I would like to put a new 2.25" base in the area above and a little ahead of the shifter. I should be able to reach in the opening under the console to install hardware. Is the fibreglass thick enough to support this if properly done with a solid backing plate? I believe I have seen photos of this install but cant seem to find any with search feature. If you have some please post. Thanks

BCB. Is that a strong enough area? I would hate to install in an area and have it result in cracking the glass or other issues.Thanks

Should be fine as long as you sandwich the deck.
