Which engine and propeller, power poles or not?

Now I have a 2011 Puma FTD and it is better but still leaves alot to be desired. any help?1. How many seconds to get on plane empty livewells vs full live wells with tournament load?2. What is your motor height adjustment? There will be many to follow to help you out. Hang in there.
2 power poles, 26 Fury, 8″ hyd plate all the way down, if the live wells are full there has to be someone in the front for it to brake over. Mercury 250
What plugs do you have in the prop?
none.
should not that I run a 27 Tempest in winter, also have a 26 trophy plus that is worse than any. The 2008 boat was so bad I sold it
I bought a slightly used 2010 Cougar FTD…250 pro XS engine. Came with 25 Fury. Hole shot just OK in cool weather and light load. In warm weather, 13/15 gal in each tank and water in livewell and two people there was NO hole shot. Took FOREVER to plane off and Im not exaggerating. I see post where some are running 26 and even 27 furys with excellent hole shot and top speed in high 70s. I can see the speed but not the hole shot. Mine will turn the 25 fury at 6100 / 6200 RPM ( 75 plus MPH ) so the engine is strong but it wont get up on plane with stated load. I put a 24 Tempest plus on and it is better but still not great out of the hole. Top speed dropped to 72 / 73 MPH but thats OK, I rarely run more than 60 MPH ( getting too old for that ) I have not hit the rev limiter with either prop and would try a 23 tempest ( or 24 fury ) if I had one to get better hole shot. I have no doubt that I would get on the limiter with a 23 Tempest plus or maybe even with a 24 fury but I could control that. Maybe its just my way of thinking, but I think most people run too much prop searching for more speed and thats OK if thats what is important to them , but I believe thats hard on engines and a killer for hole shot in my experiences. Well thats just my 2 cents worth. BTW…. I love the mid range and handling of the 25 Fury….but it was just too much prop for my set up.Would love to here about anyone running a 24 Fury on a Cougar or Puma FTD with 250 pro XS. What kind of hole shot and handling could I expect. Would hole shot be better than the 24 Tempest plus ?

There are many Merc gurus on this site that will help you figure this out.
f33730349,Power poles or not? We see issues with the leverage and mount drag on power poles and brackets. Especially those with Talons as the weight is top end of the pole and leverage is maximized.

This is just my opinion…….many here might disagree. I would try a 23 Tempest plus as long as you dont exceed max recommended RPM. I just dont think running a big wheel just for a couple of MPH on top end is worthgiving up good hole shot ! I took a 25 pitch Fury off of my 250 pro XS and now use a 24 Tempest plus. Yes I lost about 2 / 3 MPH on top but can still run 73 plus. Thats faster than I want to go most anytime ! Maybe its old age catching up with me ! Note……The 25 was very good and fast on top end in cool / cold weather without water in livewell. Warm weather and full livewell , I had no hole shot ! The 24 is no rocket out of the hole with full livewell but it does plane off Ok even in warm weather. BTW…..I only keep 12 to 13 gallons in each tank to start the day. I dont know what hole shot would be with 25 gallons in both tanks but suspect it wouldnt be too good. Thats a lot more weight on the back end !Look forward to others opinion.
Pull the PVS plug. Might help. If it doesnt then youll likely need to go down in pitch or have your prop tuned.
I am currently running the same setup as you except I have PPs but should be close in weight and im running a 200 big block with 25 trophy and 2 large plugs in. Im pretty much having the same results in the summer and runs great in spring/fall. My plan is to try a 24 trophy in the summer but I havnt found one to try and hate to drop the coin on one just to try out. I have also heard of a few people running a 24 fury but I also havnt got my hands on one of those
I have 2002 P3 with a 200 Opti. I changed to a 24p Razor 3 from Mark Croxton and now my boat jumps on plane with ease. Also my jackplate is 1/2 inch above flush.
By the way this is with full tanks and full livewells.
