how hard is it to replace shock in trailer tongue?
My tongue isnt kicking back after I come to a stop like it should, leaving me with a really loud/hard clunk when taking off. Even if I try to take off really slow and easy.I searched around and didnt find any threads about replacing the shock. I would think that would be the problem, its not pushing back out once I come to a stop. 13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Polaris I looked into this a while back on a buddys boat. Parts like that are hard to locate and we were surprised to see that we could replace the entire coupler for $60 to $70 so thats what we did and he ended up with a much better outcome. We found the coupler locally too so that was easy. Dont know that this answers your question but it gives you another option.Another thought…….how old is your trailer? Do your brakes work other than the “clunk”? The only time that I have ever experienced the clunk you mentioned was when I had a brake line that had come off and lost the fluid. Check your fluid and your brakes because it just might not the the “shock” that is the problem. Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Not sure if this is the type you have, but I will go this route when the time comes. Good price, and all new parts.http://www.basscatstore.com/a60hydrauli … uator.aspx
Myself, would replace the whole unit. Of its wearing out chances are the rest will too. Depending in what unit you will probably have to remove whole assembly anyhow. Which means bleeding brakes too.
Its a 2013 so fairly new… No braking issues other than the clunk. Ill check the fluid & try adding some if its low and bleeding them to see if that helps first.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Mine was doing that as well. I bled the brakes. Ended up running all new fluid through the system. It stopped my clunk. Brake fluid will evaporate. I check mine monthly. Also the shock is avaiable at pacific trailor.com2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
A few years back I had to replace that shock. The part was readily available right from UFP, and inexpensive. I know nothing about the difficulty of installation as I traded that boat and just gave the dealer the shock for him to install.
I had the issue with the surge brakes “clunking” noise. I first thought that I needed to replace worn parts. I was wrong. What was happening was that when I would brake, the atcuator would go all the in. When you go forward then it would pull all the way out and make that clunking sound. The main problem was the brakes had air in the lines. after bleeding them it stopped. It came back after awile. I then realized that the quick disconnect brake line to the removable tongue would allow a little air into the brake line everytime I would disconnect.
Thanks guys…. bleeding sounds like what I need to do then. What kind of fluid is in there? Regular brake fluid or hydrolic fluid?13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Brake fluid, yes bleeding them should resolve your issue. Though if it doesnt order the complete kit and change it out, not very hard but does require a little patience and you will need to bleed the brakes.
