That would be an option, though gel coat would require some sanding and polishing to refinish if that concerns you. If the rippled finish does not impact you, then you could easily leave it as sprayed.
Thanks for the response. Is painting the gelcoat on ok or does it have to be sprayed? Since it is on the bottom of the boat and not seen, I think minimal sanding would be ok.
You can use gel or an epoxy like Marine Tex to patch the area. If you use gel it can be applied by brush, but be sure and use enough catalyst(hardener) for the gel to set up !And gel needs to be covered to cure properly, Ward likes to use saran wrap on all his gel repairs !
You can brush gel coat and it does not have to be sprayed. It does not sound like that finish down there is your ultimate concern, and we deal with all types.
Id rather lift at the transom than i had jack under the pad. Forklift, engine hoist, overhead crane, winch, etc,,,,? I just dont like the thought of a 2×4 slipping ! Ive done it before but not on a P4. D.
Run it by your neighbor there in Higden. The dealer there is a BCB dealer hell give you an idea. While your there, go inside to the tackle shop. Small, but has everything and more!Js Marine SupplyMercury/YamahaStan/Larry7560 Edgemont Road • Higden, AR 72067 • 501-825-6599 • Fax: 501-825-7119
Run it up to the factory area and have one of the BCB off duty shops handle it. This is how water jacketing starts from high speeds on long runs and rough water. They just fixed three gouges on Mark Tuckers and he was adamant that he wanted to get it fixed before the long runs and rough water on Lake of the Ozarks. He has seen what it can do before and these need some attention if they are deeper than a top chip. Every since we all started pressing the envelope into the 70s ranges these have wreaked havoc on hulls so get it touched up.

Garry Wright up in MH works at BC factory and does some excellent work on the side as well. There are others that do some moonlighting when not cranking out BassCats.I would definitely call ahead as it will be very busy around the OI……….Last edited by jignpig on April 19th, 2011, 2:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
