Interior lighting ?

I have a 2003 classic. One night recently the interior lights, the small inset ones on the bow gunwale, came on by themselves and would not go off. I hit the master power switch and that obviously turned them off, but now I cannot get them to turn back on. I cant find a switch for this light anywhere. Is this attached to the navigation or anchor lights? It does not turn on with those at the moment, but I rarely am out after dark so to be perfectly honest Im not sure if they were in the past. Can anyone help with this? It seems like its clearly an electrical problem, maybe wiring, maybe the light itself, but Id like to fix it and Im not sure where to start. I wired all new electronics this fall, and I dont recall seeing fuse box either. Probably just forgetting where it was, is this likely to just be a fuse?

Those are the flip (rocker) lights, correct? Were they flipped when they were on, and not flipped when they were off? I cant imagine them being on and not flipped, because flipping them makes the electrical contact, regardless of anything else going on with the wiring.

Thanks! Im not 100% certain I understand, but the lights do rotate up/down in their housing. However, rotating them when they were on did not turn them off, and rotating them now did not turn them on. I may be doing it wrong though, what exactly is the procedure for turning these lights on/off? If theres a question about what style lights these are I can email someone a picture, I cant figure out how to post a picture on this forum.

Must have been some moisture on the contacts that prevented them from turning off.

On a 2003, the contacts are probably pretty corroded. You can carefully pry the lenses off, I actually pull the entire light assembly out, and you can pull the bulb and get something in there to scrape the corrosion off the contacts at each end and the little wheel. I use Corrosion X on all the contacts. On a new boat, periodic applications of Corrosion X seems to keep them working.They illuminate by flipping up or down and should turn off when centered. They have power when the master power switch is on. If you end up replacing the lights with the same type, put a little Corrosion X on the contacts before you install them.Or stick a switched LED light in.Forgot to add, there is a thread on this board somewhere that shows the flip lights in detail and how to clean the contacts. I tried sanding the contacts on the lights on my 2006 Classic, and they would work for a couple of days, and then stop again. I ended up spending the $10 a piece to replace them. They are for sale in the BassCat store.

These look like them…what was involved in replacing them? Do they pry out or is there a fitting you need to access from inside the rod box?

There are metal clips that you squeeze from inside and push the whole thing out. I have removed them from the outside but its more tricky. $10 a light is worth it to avoid cleaning the contacts. Just put something on the contacts of the new light before you install.
