I purchased my Sabre new back in March. I would charge my batteries up fully after each use only to have to charge them for 2.5+ hours just days later before taking her out again. I always turned out my master power switch and unplugged my TM. After the 4th or 5th use, it dawned on me to check the water level in the batteries. One of,the TM batteries had NO WATER in it. Is this my problem? Is my battery ruined or is it possible that I have something drawing on them? Any help/info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Bingo. Dry one out and chances are – its toast. Some batteries are thirsty and have to have water monthly. Distilled water only – chemicals in tap water will kill a battery.
Take the battery to your local auto parts store and let them test it. But I think he is right, it is probably toast. I keep some battery acid on hand to put in the thirsty batteries annually as well. You might know this already, but I didnt know it so Ill share. On a side note, remember that if your batteries drain beyond a certain point, they wont charge back up using the on board multi-bank chargers. You have to use a conventional charger to bring them up some.
We suggest you also monitor the charger to see if it is locking up on a high charge rate. If the lights are not reducing then this is a potential problem with water loss in your battery. Your dealership can assist you if there is a need for help.
Stone, I know that boat (almost bought it) and it did sit at EKs for quite some time. I dont know if the batteries were in it or if he added them when you bought it. Either way it sounds like you have a bad battery. ….beautiful rig by the way…. I called about it again not long after you purchased it! I bet shes FAST!!!!
Yeah, she will get down the water. Im still in break in mode right now so I havent worried about set up yet. Im seeing 65mph @5250 rpm with 2 men. She came with a 4 blade small bore prop. Im going to move up to,a big bore 3 blade after break in. Im somewhat disappointed with some of the issues that Im having with a new boat. Im planning on calling BCB tomorrow about this battery issue along with one more issue.
