Anything more than an 8″ will void your hull warranty. Other than that I know of a couple of guys that went bigger 12″+ on older Panteras but it did not really improve much, 2-3 mph was all they got for the expense. And that was back when they only put 6″ plates.

Definitely would void hull warranty. Would be a waste of money, and may decrease present performance imho. How long has he owned the rig? What kind of performance numbers is he seeing now?

He has owned it since 04. Correction it’s a 01 model. I have seen it run 84 with the 250XB. Lately he has been remodeling it sold the XB for a XS and runs in the mid 70’s. Ordered a Altlas and his friend that is a Merc mechanic recommended the 14” plate. I said hell no he said other wise. Not my boat or money but just looking to see what he is in for.

It would still void hull warranty. That Cougar is the original model “pre FTD”. Lighter and quicker according to most. Not that it matters, but has he exhausted all other options……..changing/experimenting with props, adjusting his present jackplate, etc? He probably has, but we dont know at this point.The XB was the “bomb diggity”. The XS doesnt have the same Ummph so to speak. Most see 75-81 with todays FTD/250 XS combo so hes not that far off.
