Jon Boat Question

I have a really old Jon boat that was left at a property I bought. It is probably about 15 or 16 feet and also has a working 10 HP motor. Currently the motor isnt hooked up and no trolling motor is on it. I am going out to a buddies farm pond where we are going to have a fish derby and drinking fest. I was thinking about just getting a little transom mount trolling motor for the small Lake/Big Pond. Do you think 30 lbs of thrust will push that boat with two adults in it all day or should I by a tank and hookup for the 10hp as well. Thanks,

the troller will work just fine. I grew up fishing in small ponds and I used a 14 jon many years with nothing but a paddle, skulling from the front of the boat. My arm worked just fine so I am certain a good troller will do the deed. I fish out of a jon boat every now and then. Had an uncle with a 20 acre lake and my brother-in-law and myself fished it from a 14 jon with a 12v troller and we fished all day…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

OT is right, the trolling motor will be fine….as long as you are using a deep cycle battery. I did use the old sculling paddle growing up, and got my first trolling motor at 16. Used that boat and turned the head of the tm around to make it a bow mount.
