Livewell compression latches

I really like the idea of installing the vents and compression latches! I dont see why the compression latches would be an issue. They are used on the new boats with the same triangular lids.

You will have to space the jaw out to catch the latch hat lip. The lids are offset outwards to allow mounting.

Well. as Redngoo stated, this may not work properly with the rectangle lids of the PII as compared to the triangle lids of the premium boats. It would only be pulling down on one side of the lid, rather than the center.Guess I will keep the standard latches and add ice as needed. Never had an issue losing fish. Why change a working recipe!

Could you move the piano hinge from the side to the back. If so, would the front edge line up. Been studying the same thing on my 05 Puma. Basscat, would it retro??

That likely would work and it would also press the lid 1/8″ further out for the lip of the hook to grasp.

I went offshore right after posting, so I was not able to get back on the board until today. On my P3 the hatches are hinged at the rear and I have room with the step box to move the latches closer to the center of each lid. On my 2001 model even though the rest of the boat is solid fiberglass, they still used wood in the lids for the compartments, and a few have started to get soft around the latches, (It is not a garage queen and sometimes has to sit out while I am offshore, and I already replaced the large flipping deck hatch) which is why I am debating having new aluminum hatch covers made. And it helps to have a friend in the aluminum sheet metal and welding business. I only have about 400 hrs on the 2006 Opti, but i have worn out and rebuilt 2 tour model trolling motors multiple times (I have my spare on the wall ready to go) in that same time span.
