I am looking at one of these units to put a small boat but was not sure of the quality. It is not a gen 2 first of all and has a built in gps. Is it a good value at $399? Bass Pro has it on sale $200 off and I thought this would be a great spring upgrade. Thanks.
For that price, it is a good deal,. You really cant go wrong with any lowrance unt, 1 yr warranty, and if it breaks past that pending on cost to fix they ave offered deals on upgrades to newer unit
I have a elite 5 dsi and I have been very disappointed. Its not a good stand alone unit IMHO. I would go with the elite 5 with GPS its a very good unit. If you are wanting down imaging go with the hds and structure scan. I just upgraded mine and the difference is amazing. I just always felt I wasted my money on the elite dsi. BTW I have been hearing good things about the new elite 7 hdi units.
I have one of the Elite 5 DSI that I bought when they first came out for the bow of my boat. This one does not have the GPS/ mapping it is just a black and white sonar unit with down scan imaging. I have been satisified with it. To me the down scan imaging is pretty good. Submerged timber shows up remarkably well on my unit in my opinion. Unless your willing to spend almost double that amount for a HDS unit I think the DSI would be fine. I almost bought another DSI for my latest upgrade but ended up going with the HDS only so that I could upgrade to structure scan later if I wanted to. Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
