Lowrance LMS-480DF

My lorance has quit working and Ive been trying to get through to service for three days now. Unit is dead plain and simple, power to back of unit but unit wont come on. I try to register unit on their web site and it says invalid serial number though its the serial number off the back of unit Got through to service yesterday after sitting on line for an hour only to be disconnected while talking to service rep. because of end of work day. Im to the point where they can take their unit and put it where the sun dont shine. Anyone know a good replacement other than lowrance.

The 800 Tech line frustrates most who use it. The online assistance is usually the best with Lowrance. We do understand the frustration with waiting in line, then getting cut short. BCB

I know youve probably already went this route but thought I would post any way. unit troubleshootingPOWER ON/OFF PROBLEMSHere are some suggestions that could solve the problem and prevent you from having to be without your unit! * Check the Fuse If your unit will not power up. Check the fuse. It will be located in a fuse-holder attached to the red wire on the power cable. If the fuse has blown, replace it with a fuse that is the same value. If the unit is wired to a fuse panel, check the fuse in the panel.* Debris in the keyboard contacts: In case there is dirt or other debris covering the contacts inside the keypad, press down on the button in question and wiggle it to try to restore its function.* Inspect the Connections: Make sure the power cable connector is seated securely in the connector on the unit. Make sure that the cable connections to the power source are not loose or disconnected.* Clean the Connections: Corrosion or oxidation could occur on the power cable connector pins and fuse-holder. This can prevent sufficient power from flowing to the unit. Clean the connections to be sure. Sometimes the substance is clear and not easily seen.* Verify the Presence of Voltage: Using a volt-meter, verify that your power source is outputting 12 volts. Then use the volt-meter to verify that the same amount of power is coming through the cable connector that plugs into the unit. Glynn

BCB I need to know a comparable replacement that will fit in the same hole as the Lowrance LMS-480DF. Ive gotten nothing but a run around both through their so called customer run_around service and computer site. Im done playing the game. Ill replace their product with something else.

The 500 or 300 series will retro, as will the newer HD5 units. Converting to HB units is possible in the 700 series size, you may have to cut one notch and have room in an area.

BCB I currently have a HB700 sitting at the front Of my PIV which I like and use over the Lowrance which is still there as a back up. Im now seriously looking at another HB700 series to replace my LMS-480. Is there anything particular I need to be aware of installation wise?

The templates are not exact and should be in the package and you will need the in dash bracket.
