Topic: Lowrance LSS1 vs. LSS2

I am currently running an HDS8 gen 2 at the console and HDS9 gen 2 touch at the bow with an LSS1 scanner and transducer and have a chance to upgrade the scanner and trans to LSS2 for under $400. All installed in a 2012 P2. Now to my questions:--is the improved resolution worth it?Also, the transducer lead is routed between the jackplate and transom entering through the splashwill drain to the sump.--it looks like I will need to loosen the outboard from the transom to feed the transducer lead through. Other opinions will vary, but if you are satisfied with the LSS1 I would leave it alone. The internet is swarming with poeple that claim the LSS1 gave clearer images than the LSS2, at least on older units.I have two -8s and the LSS1 and recently added the Sonarhub in order to use the HDI transducer at the bow. Im satisfied with my LSS1 down/side scan at the transom. If/when I upgrade units I will definitely go for the LSS2 or 3D SS, but until then, Im happy.I think the bigger transducer plug fits through the jackplate, if not, it could be routed behind/beside it.

I have both, the LSS1 on my Gen1 units on my Xpress, and the Gen2 Touch units with the LSS2 on my Cat. Heres the low down. The LSS2 will shoot out to the side just a little better than the LSS1 will, but the picture on a LSS1 is crisper. If you want the best distance out to the side go with the 3D and use it for down and sidescan. Other than that, stay with your LSS1.

Thank you Bass Cat! Ill also add in my honest opinion that shooting WAY out to the side is not all its cracked up to be. Once you start shooting out really far, your resolution goes way down and you dont see anything in great detail. I have one screen shot on my old computer that crashed that showed 4 crappie over a stump. You could actually see the fins on the fish and this was with my LSS1. Ive yet to get that good of an image with my LSS2.
