Lowrance or humminbird

HDS10 the sonar has better clarity when fishing deep water like jigging spoons off shore in thr winter, Lowrance structure scan has 3 crystal receiver witch makes it digital and the Hummingbird has 2 crystal receiver which is anolog ( unless they have changed it in 2011) so the picture will be better on the Lowrance unit. I think the Lowrance units are easier to use, I have a 10 & 8 on my boat. Both are good unit, both have good pionts and bad, but thats my 2 cents.Gary

My thoughts:Lowrance better sonar (much better)/Humminbird better side image.Humminbird easier to use/Lowrance has more options to work with.Humminbird better customer service/Lowrance getting better (so I hear).Lowrance has true connection between two units/Humminbird interlink sucks but hear they are coming out with ethernet connection.I have Humminbird now but if I were buying today I would go with Lowrance.

I posed the question to BCB about Etherneting the HBs and they are now using Ethernet to connect two units….

I may be wrong and BCB can correct, but Humminbird is standard equipment w/ 3 years warranty and Lowrance is optional w/ 1 year warranty. I swapped to Humminbird about 3 years ago when it became difficult to fish w/ Lowrance in wet conditions. Almost a guaranteed “water in the unit”. Dont think this has been totally corrected, but has gotten better. Humminbird……………one issue in 3 years and it was rectified w/in 3 days!

With the latest round of software releases the Interlink issues have been resolved. We also have Ethernet that will connect the units togther to share waypoint, routes, tracks and sonar.

For what it is worth, I have been a Lowrance man for many (20 + years). My new PII has Humminbird units on it. I have been extremely well pleased with Humminbird. Their quality seems to be much better than it was 10 years ago, and the Humminbird factory is less than an hour from me. In fact, I was down there today to have trouble shooting done on my bow unit. The problem is not the unit–it is the transducer for the bow unit that was glassed in at the factory. Humminbird “gave” me a trolling motor mounted transducer with no questions asked. In my eyes, this is customer service above and beyond the call of duty. I prefer the trolling motor mounted transducer for fishing vertical once it gets hot or extremely cold. HumminBird on a BCB Model is a two (2) year warranty. The Lowrance is a one (1) year warranty we believe. The Ethernet system on both are the way to go and the Navionics maps will be required on both. Be sure to price both brands with all the features and comparisons you want. BCB Admin.
