The transducer on the prototype was a stick looking obstacle that L shaped off the transom with a large amount of leverage able to be applied to the transducer. We have not seen production parts and have no concept of how they are constructed. We also were not understanding that the units were shipping yet. BCB
I received a call from Three Rivers Marine Electronics yesterday. They told me that their first order of 25 units had been filled and they would be shipping Thursday (tomorrow) to those who had pre-ordered. Also I saw a post on the BFHP last week from a guy who claimed that his Structure Scan unit had been shipped. C.
We received our first shipment today. So they are processing. BCB

Thx, C.I read another post that told about where you mounted the new transducer. Did you already have an HDS unit in the console when you bought the boat or did you install it? Reason I ask is because I heard you need to install the sideview transducer within a foot of the standard HDS transducer to get an optimal downscan image (separation). I got an HDS-5 and the sidescan for Christmas (dont tell anyone that I peeked) and I have a standard transducer off of a 520c installed now. Im just wondering if the old transducer is the same as the new one (I think the connectors may be different). If I cant use the old one, then Im going to be hanging upside down trying to install a shoot thru transducer – fun. I could use one of the skimmer transducers on the jackplate along side of the sidescan transducer. A plate between the jackplate slides (like I think yours is) would work. When/if you can get a picture of yours please post it here or at the other post. http://basscatowners.yuku…/reply/56284#reply-56284FISH ON!
I installed my HDS7 early in the year and used it stand-alone until the Structure Scan system was released. When I installed the HDS7, I just used the transducer that was in place from my old unit (LCX-26CHD). By doing that: 1. I didnt have to worry about getting the old transducer out and the new one in place! 2. I actually prefer the old transducer as it as a 20 degree cone angle vs the 12 degree cone angle on the transducer that shipped with the HSD7 3. The transducer that came with the HDS7 also had an 83Khz capability which I obviously wont have. IMHO, thats no big loss as the 83Khz transducer is recommended for deeper water and I wont need it BTW theres also a transducer option available in the HDS menu system where you should select the specific transducer you are using. Any of the ones listed there should work. Whether your existing transducer will work depends on what kind of connector it has. If the same configuration as the HDS connectors, should it work! I just posted the pictures in reply to the other message. C.
Nice pictures and nice work. Ive heard several different responses regarding whether the 520c thru hull transducer will work with HDS, some say it will and others say it wont. Im headed to the barn to see if the connectors are the same. Thanks C!FISH ON!
Well the connectors off of the 520c cables were the same. they connected right up to the HDS5. I powered it up and it seemed to be fine. Now I have another question. The 520c had an external gps. Which connector/cable goes to the GPS puck? Im hoping that this wont fry something in the HDS5 if I have a connection to an external GPS working against the internal GPS. I might just see if I can pull all of the old cables out and install the new ones. Not sure how hard it will be to get those old cables out and the new ones in. If anyone cares to provide some tips please do! Merry ChristmasFISH ON!
There should be no problem hooking up your old external GPS antenna, however from what Ive seen that is not needed. The internal antenna on the HDS7 I a have works just fine. Now if you want to spring for the LGC-4000 antenna, that will be a bit better because it provides position updates much more often than either the internal HDS antenna or the older LGC-2000 & LGC-3000 antennas. If it were me, Id leave the old cables. No benefit to the new ones so long as they work and the connectors fit. Seems like every time I try to put new cables through, my arms and hands come out looking like I was in a fight with a cat! C.
The transducers for the LMS520c and the HDS5 are the same model number. PDRT-WBL Part # 106-89 Shoot-thru-hull mount, 20 degree pod type with remote temperature (200 kHz). (20 ft cable). So now I need to find out exactly where the existing transducer is installed. I dont know if it was installed at BCB, or at the dealer. The reason I need to know is, Lowrance recommends installing the sidescan transducer within 1 foot of the standard transducer to get optimal separation. If its too far away from the jackplate (where I plan on installing the sidescan) Ill have to install another transducer. If thats the case, Ill install both transducers on a plate similar to how cls2613 installed his sidescan transducer. Will I be able to see the existing transducer in the back of my P-II? Ill go out to the barn today and see if I can find it. But if BCB knows where it is please let me know. Thanks!!!
