Got a question for ya Bass Cat - On a 90 Margay II, what was the max HP rating? And given todays heavier motors, what would you say would be a reasonable motor that the transom could handle that would still get the boat up on plane and run at least in the 40s? Somebodys got one up here for sale and offering to put an old 150 on it for additional $$, which Im thinking is way too big for that boat, but just wondering if it would even be affordable to try to get it with no motor and put something newer on it. Many thanks in advance for the input!God bless,Scott
Brighteork, any 115 or 90 today would be fine for weights. Since BCB and mercury are affiliated Im sure it was run with the old inline 4 cylinder SLUG 115/125 Merc 2 stroke which weighed the same as a new 115. Id go for pure balance smoothness and power with a Evinrude V4 or Yamaha 115 4 stroke, unless your lucky and find a Yamaha v4 115 2 stroke. The 3cylinder optimax is ok but a 3 cylinder is never balanced or smooth, especially when it started life as a 3liter V6!!!! A merc. 90elpto 2 stroke would be nice also.
