Margay motor height with 150 HO G2

So after taking my new Margay out a few times I’m starting to realize I need to work on setup some. With my G2 150 HO the fastest I’ve hit is right at 60 mph. Granted it’s still in break in and I’m sure it will be faster once it goes down to normal oil use. I feel like the nose is not coming up enough. Im completely new to driving fast bass boats but I have done some reading. I have trimmed it as high as 55% and there it’s at 5400 or so RPM but I feel like there is too much of a rooster tail. So my thinking is I need to raise the motor and then it should require less trim and get less rooster tail? I could be way off on that like I said I’m new to this but wanting to learn. I have read through BCBs post on setting engine height but the G2 does not have the bracket they say to measure to. Anyways, any help will be much appreciated. Also if there is anyone in central Florida good at setting these boats up I’d be happy to pay for the help. Not only for the knowledge but also because I have no tools as I’m here for work and staying in the company condo. I’ll be buying the tools I need if I have to though. I will be watching this post myself. But can i ask what prop were you supplied with and size ? Hopefully someone from BCB comes back with an answer. But what i can say over here in Aus a sabre FTD with the same motor is turning a 28 and still hitting the rev limiter.

I am not familiar with the G2. With the Merc, the lower you run the engine, the more responsive trim will be (At slow and fast speeds).Running an engine high will usually require more speed to get the trim to respond (Bow lift).As someone else mentioned, keep an eye on your water pressure. Especially if the engine is high.

As your speed increases, it will need less trim to get bow rise. Thus no rooster tail.

I have a 2015 Margay with a 2015 Mercury 150 Pro XS on it and I am having the same issue, but mine is more when I have a partner with me that I have to trim the motor higher in order to get any type of speed (Yes, it kicks off a large rooster tail). But I am still only getting at most 41 mphs. I have had the boat for 3 years now and I tried to go with a prop with a higher pitch 26 fury, but the motor did not like that with more weight of my partner in the boat. When it was just me, the high pitch prop got me into the 60’s and the through the chime walk with ease. But I couldn’t even get on plane with a co-angler in the boat. I am a bigger guy so I am wondering if I need to raise the motor because of the heavier weight or do I need to lower the motor? Or do I need to get a 4 blade prop?

The Fury is great for speed, but doesn’t have as much lift in my experience with Merc 150 4-stroke on my Sabre FTD when loaded down. Tempest and Trophy are better as they have more blade surface area. Moving heavier items to the rear will help the bow fly as well, especially if you have heavier Minn Kota trolling motor up front. I wouldn’t raise the motor either as that will lessen the props bite and therefore create less lift, hope that helps.
