Margay with 115 4 stroke

Just my opinion; but I would go with the Mercury 150 Optimax Pro X/S. Still getting use to mine, but would not have any other engine on this rig. Cruises in the 50s and can run close to 70 if you want. Im completly satisified with the gas consumption. I dont think the 115 would be enough for this boat when fully loaded. The 150 jumps out of the hole and doesnt even know it has a full load. I have had about 10 different bass boats and always set up with the max HP. Like I said, “just my opinion”.

i purchased a margay with 115 2 stroke last year ran it two times loaded about 40mph traded up for 150 4 stroke good on gas runs in low 60″ go for the 150 and you will happy

Thanks for the suggestions. I do agree that the new mercury 150 4stroke would be the absolute perfect motor for this rig. This is my current situation. I have a 2006 Starcraft ski boat with a 115 merc 4 stroke on the back. The motor only has 50 hours and is perfect. I really dont want to sell the boat due to the sentimental value it has with my kids, and plus the nada value, isnt worth anything. I think book value is about 8500.I have my eye on the current margay that is listed for sale here. I think it was a boat that was won at the owners event. If I can get that boat cheap enough, bolt on my motor and be fishing for less than half of the cost of a new rig with a new motor. I could always upgrade motors later if need be.I just wanted to know if my current motor would push the margay fine until I had the cash saved to buy a new one.

In that case, Yeah I think youll be fine.. just dont expect lots of speed or really great hole shots once youve got it loaded down w/ all your gear…But a lot of Margays sell with a 115 motor on them so…. One situation with the 115 H.P. motors is that the Optimax 115 just isnt a very strong motor. The E-tech 115 would be much better for any bass boat application in my opinion. The 4 stroke 115s may even have more bottom end umphhh than the 115 optimax. The 115 Opti and the 75 opti are the same blocks so that gives you an idea. Again, If I wanted to put a 115 h.p. motor on a bass boat It would probably be the 115 e-tech for me. I would also look closely at the 115 4 strokes by yamaha, mercury, suzuki, honda. All very good motors and run very well.The Margay should have no problem performing just fine with a 115 h.p. motor. It just requires a little different setup and you must be careful with the amount of weight you are putting in the boat when going with a smaller motor. Chris,Thanks for the advice. The motor I have is a 2006 merc 115 4 stroke. During this year Yamaha actually made the power heads, and merc did the lower unit. This motor is basically a Yamaha 115 4 stroke. If you take off the cowling everything is from japan.
