The engines were fine and should last plenty long with proper water pump changes and paying attention to heat and pressure gauges. They can plug the screen on the compressor pump also and cook a compressor. Usually it’s related to a cold seize or hot seize.

A couple of things about the ProXS/Optimax. 1. Get a Mercmonitor to see engine temps for proper warm up and alarm data!2. Warm it up and cool it down properly! EVERY TIME.3. Do annual regular maintenance. 4. Do not let little problems become big problems. 5. Do not just shut down/restart after an alarm and think the problem is “fixed”. It is not. The Mercmonitor will give you plain language alarm data as long as you do not turn the key off. If you get an alarm set it down then pull the kill switch. The MM will stay powered so you can see what is causing the alarm.

Learn how to clean the compressor strainer and thermostats. They take a couple of hand tools. I usually have to do mine several times a year. I also keep a set of Thermostat gaskets in the boat.

himmerlrr, good info. I need to check my strainers. I dont fish any dirty water or anything with weeds. I have taken out my thermostats for cleaning before. I wouldnt own a merc without a smart craft after having one finally.
