I searched this and the FAQ forums for Yamaha Prop and for Prop and nothing came up so I am asking here…..please understand that I am a newdie to different engines and props. I have only owned 1 Evenrude and 2 Yamaha motors in my lifetime.I saw where on the PIV that Bull Shoals boat bock has for sale, that they have a Mercury prop on a Yamaha engine. I am running the standard 3 blade Yamaha 25p prop currently. Has anyone put a Merc prop on their Yamaha 200 and would a 4 blade be better than the standard 3 blade I currently have. Also, how do you modify a merc hub to fit the Yamaha hub? Thanks
If using a Mercury prop with a Flo-torque hub, you buy the hub kit for your motor.
I ran a 24 Fury on my 200 SHO PIV.
You might want to double check me, but I think this is the one for you Flo-Torq Hub Kit – 835271Q2I run a 25 Tempest on my P4, but the 25 Fury is a little faster. The Fury doesnt give me much bow lift, so I dont particularly like it. I tried the Hill SL4 in 24 (4-blade Bravo copy) with 4 1″ holes. I hit my limiter with it, but I liked it a lot better than a Bravo FS with 8 PVS holes, that I ran back-to-back. If I were to go to a 4 blade prop, I would go SL4 24p and have it tightened up a little to 25. Everyone is different, though.
That is the correct hub kit. It comes with the right thrust washer and converts to a castle lock. Other than using an adapter like the Merc hub kit – you dont modify anything….. Ultimately what works best on your boat will depend on how you load it and where you run it. Heavy loads tend to run faster with a 4 blade – but a light load is faster with a 3 blade. A 4 blade will give you better handling and maneuverability. Overall performance a 3 blade will be faster. Nothing having to do with props is cut in stone and no two hulls perform exactly the same based on loading, weight distribution, and motor height. No two props will ever run “exactly” the same due to casting differences. Hate to say it, but ultimately whats best for you is totally personal preference. Borrow props from friends in the same pitch youre running until you find the combo that feels the best. Chasing the rabbit can get kinda pricey. If there was ever a true – this prop for this motor on this hull scenario – prop sales would drop 90% overnight. Splains why I have 5 other props in milk crates in my garage.
Thanks, Im a heavy guy so I figured the hole shot would be better with a 4 blade on my 200 yammy. Not too worried about top end as much. She gets up ok with me, my partner, and our gear, but I think I can get a better hole shot with a 4 blade.Great info, thanks
I run a 25 fury on my old 250 ox66. It flys. Love the combo/// edit note- the 25M with a few mods by a good prop guy is a great prop. Didnt last on my 250, but really good performance till it slung a blade.(not rated for 250)Last edited by Tx76 on April 24th, 2016, 4:42 am, edited 1 time in total.
I ran a 24 Fury on my Yamaha 200 EFI, it was a better prop than the 25M on my old PIII.I dont know which props the pros were running on the two SHOs that slung blades at Bull Shoals yesterday and today. But I would want to know if I had a SHO.
Both Mercury Fury and T1 Yamaha propellers are capable of slinging a blade. It is an occurance not singled out to any brand.
