Topic: Mercury 250 Pro XS detuned from 275 to 240 horsepower in 2017?

I was told that for 2017 the Mercury 250 Pro XS was detuned from 275 horsepower to 240 horsepower in order to meet more strict emission standards and to allow the Optimax to continue in production for another few years. I sure hope this is not true. Hopefully, the Bass Cat factory can shed some light on this topic. If they detuned the Pro XS, would the same reduction take place for the Verado? For 35 more horsepower, I would want the Verado. I will soon purchase my new retirement boat and need answers to questions such as the above.

No, it was only marginally efffected and they seem to have only slightly lost performance. Much of that is in the hole shot area.

That already occurred in 2015. Same year generation 2 torquemaster case showed up.

They still run like a scalded dog. I havent really noticed a whole lot of difference

Just because you read it on the internet doesnt make it true. I saw that post on BBC also. Crock. I have seen the same thing about the Pro XS 200… that it got weaker when it went to the CARB-3 rating. Mine is CARB-3 and runs like a scalded ape with its tail on fire.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Guys / gals – you could by 10 identical motors , and 2 or 3 of them will run off and leave the rest when set up identically . — ( O/T , you got one of those 2 or 3 .) — Theres no explanation for it , it just is . — I had a Yamaha 150 PRO-V back in the day that would run 68 m.p.h. on an 88 Pan 2 with a tournament load . — Burned a piston under warranty . — Replacement powerhead was a TOTAL TURD !!!! — Never ran as good as its predecessor until I did a BUNCH of work to it . — Just sayin — All things the same are NOT equal . — Hoss

2 stroke motors are a breed of their own and as Hoss has stated, varying differences are to be expected. I just hope I can still get a 2 stroker when my 300 finally craps out. I really dont understand why Yamaha stopped making the 300 when it makes more HP at less RPM. Seems like a win, win
