I just purchased a 2000 bass cat cougar and it has an 80lb MinnKota fortrex trolling motor. The slight problem is it will go forever at mid to 3/4 power but at the highest speeds it will kick one of the inline breakers. one of the breakers is inline going to the front of the boat (to the trolling motor) the other one is in the jumper wire that goes between the two batteries. Any idea what could cause this and what a fix would be. Thanks,
Check all wiring connections and terminal ends for corrosion and wires loose. The breaker may be faulty as Phil pointed out and there could be more. On a 2000 model we tend to feel the breaker is the issue.
I can agree with the others. Probably a weak breaker. On the 6ga wire and 80# fortrex you need one 60A in the positive wire going to the trolling motor.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
Thanks guys,I appreciate your replies. It sounds like a 60 amp breaker will take care of my problem. I will change the breaker out this weekend. thanks again.
