Minn Kota MK440PC Charger Question

I have a question regarding a new Minn Kota MK 440 charger I recently purchased from the BassCat store. I hooked the charger up to all (4) batteries respectively. I have (3) Deka lead acid batteries for my trolling motor and a Northstar 31AGM to crank the Mercury 250 ProXS. I programmed the appropriate “battery profile” into each bank, choosing bank 1 for the AGM, and banks 2-4 for the lead acid batteries. I’m having a great deal of doubt regarding this chargers performance with an AGM battery. I had the batteries fully charged with my old charger, which I verified with a volt meter. When I plugged in the Minn Kota Charger, banks 2-4 registered 75% charged and within 30min registered fully charged. The AGM at bank 1 on the other hand only registered 25% charged. I immediately rechecked with the volt meter only to find that it registered fully charged. It took (5) hours on the Minn Kota Charger to achieve 100% charge. i started getting skeptical about the overall condition of my North Star battery. I took It this morning and had it load tested and was told that the battery is as good as new. i came home and put the battery in the boat this morning. This time I moved the charger terminal leads from bank #2 to bank #1, and bank #1 to bank # 2. I plugged the charger in and reprofiled the batteries so that bank #2 would read AGM, and bank #1 would read flooded. The problem now shows up on bank #2 which is connected to the AGM battery. It’s showing that the AGM battery is only 25% charged, but when I had it load tested and checked 30min. prior, it showed FULLY CHARGED! Has anyone else experienced similar problems with this charger and AGM batteries?

What is the voltage in the batteries.

Fully charged static sitting batteries (sitting idle 30 minutes) should register 12.8 volts fully charged and not above 13.2 volts. If they are under 12.8 then they are not fully charged. The output on the Charger is monitored with an in line meter.

Thanks for the reply BassCat. The voltage

sitting with NO load measured 12.8 volts.

The charger when plugged in assessed the

battery (AGM) @ 25% charged. It took

almost (12) hours to get the battery to

fully charged. It only takes the charger (4)

hours to recover my lead acid batteries in

a similar state of charge.

It’s also my understanding that AGM

batteries recover QUICKER than lead

acid batteries…

We suggest you contact MinnKota customer service for their input. The description is right and we think the Charger might be trickle topping the batteries. Though we would feel better if Minn Kota described this.
