Minn kota trolling motor mounting kit.

I purchased a couple of these for my 13 p2. Actually i just purchased a ghost troller. My current set up(fortex) does not have this. I thought it would be good for support on the nose of the boat. Im a little confused what side is up and what side is down. In other words. Do the rubber washers go against the boat or the troller? If against the troller, what protects the boat.?

Since no ideals on this ive decided., i would put the rubber washer side up and cut some fine grade rubber mat 1/8″ thick and put it on the side that touches the top cap. This shoul give some protection on the fiberglass Ideals?

Thanks for the response. Actually finally had seen these on a boat and up on a close inspection i was able to determine which side was up. As the saying goes “better late than never”😁
