I have a 2012 Jaguar with a MG Pro 109 on the deck. Fishing today and was working a dock and hit the pedal to swing around the side and almost fell out. I had the power set on 2, and it felt like it was at max power? Pulled up to run over to another dock and when the motor stowed it was still running? It was then that I noticed water coming out of the head unit. I pulled the plug and shut it down for the day, guessing that I blew a seal and it shorted out. Are the 4 bolts that hold the unit in place going into threaded sleeves, or are there nuts on the bottom? Does not look like it is easy to get up in there so need some guidance here please so I can remove and see if it can be repaired. Thanks!Tom
Remove the propeller, then remove the two (2) long stem bolts that run through the entire motor housing. Once you have the bolts out you can manipulate the nose cone or rear housing and the center housing will remain in place. There are rear brushes that are normal spring loaded brushes which work on the small motor. Those will have to be placed when reinstalling. The entire process is not bad and the digital parts are installed in the motor on newer models, upper board on older models. We think yours should be in the lower motor.
Appreciate the help!
Call Jones Trolling Motor…he is on the Bass Boat Central…great guy to tell you what is wrong. Help me get mine going quick.
^^^^^^^THIS!!I had the same problem as the OP and John diagnosed it immediately. World class guy and service.
If its a 2012 Jaguar, depending on when you bought the rig, there may be some warranty left. I would suggest finding out if there is warranty before going into it yourself. If you do as Basscat says, it is possible to unload the brushes before it comes apart. If that happens, chances are real good that you will destroy a $50.00 + brush card. Im guessing water intrusion as a problem and caused the SE module to go bad, but wouldnt know why the intrusion. Does yours have the built in Lowrance ready sonar?JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
This rig probably digested line behind the propeller.
Line behind the prop would be my guess. Probably my bad for not removing the prop when I got the boat. Funny, I bought a new prop the other day because the tips were worn, but did not put it on last weekend. I am taking it in for service, not an expert here and would rather leave it to one that is. Appreciate the comments from everyone.
As it turns out, no line under the prop – a blown seal was the culprit. No damage to the lower unit so it goes under the “stuff happens” header. Of course it was just out of warranty.
This is why Motor guide has quick change releases….My Puma came with Motor guide and wish I would have switched to Minn Kota right away….Now I carry 2 extra motor guides in my truck when traveling for tournaments…MG has not been a good experience for me….
