The reason the cables snap at the foot pedal is they have gotten off the pulley. Opposing pressure on the trolling motor head allows the cables to flex at the foot pedal and they jump off pulley. This is usually grass or some other obstacle. Yes, just turning it with grass against the head will let slack develop in the cable and if you turn back fast it can jump off pulley and it runs between the pulley and frame, also cutting the stainless bolt in some cases.
