Mounting engine to jack plate height?

My merc is mounted to the jack plate in the second hole from top. Its an 06 Puma. Is this correct? My prop to pad height is exactly 3 inches right now. Also, will moving it up one notch or down make a difference at what speed the boat begins to chine? Currently running a 26 pitch fury. Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You’ll get better responses if you don’t post this in the for sale section…put the question in the general Bass Cat Boat section. First on the list. To answer your question…NO, you do NOT need to remount the engine to the jackplate. Second hole from the top is normal to that the hydraulic steering cylinder won’t hit the transom well when tilted up for travel. Make adjustments to engine height with the jackplate…that’s what it’s for (one reason). All high performance hulls are going to chine when trying to get the last few mph out of them. You just need to measure your PTP to get a good starting point. That would be about 3 1/2″ below.
