Interesting… Makes the boat look cheap. I wish you could add in the trailer, trolling motor, and outboard directly. Bob, There are too many options and variables to have a one cover jacket for all. You do add the trolling motor and options on some. Be sure you checked all the boxes as older boats didnt have engines. Simply adding the engine in will give you the indication of value, if your package does not have knee included. The two dealers I do buisiness with in Central Wisconsin use a blue book called “ABOS.”I think NADA is used mostly by insurance companies and bankers, but dont know that for sure. I tried pricing out my boat there and some of the options are unclear. For instance, I couldnt find an option for a manual jack plate, so picked something that seemed close and NADA said it was worth $1350, so obviously that wasnt right.I think a dealers blue book such as ABOS is a much better source of actual selling prices, since the guys who sell the most boats are using it.Its a subscription service of course, but if you have a dealer you regularly do business with, he should help you price any boat youre selling. Both of “my” dealers have done this for me.The Basscat I am selling, boat/motor/trailer comes out to $17, 640 in ABOS (not including accessories). I couldnt get a valid price using NADA, but admit I didnt try very hard.

NADA is the most recognized, and ABOS is also a very good source. The Jack Plate you mention in ABOS is an offshore jack plate and not a bass boat oriented item. Those books have to be written to cover teh whole marine industry and they take some knowledge to navigate. NADA is used by most dealers and investment (loan) companies, and ABOS is used in some institutions also as a support item. Most banks are not crediting the parts on boats that are not equipped as standard. No accessories are used in recent months on values.

I am a boat dealer and we only use ABOS. Unfortunately many banks are too cheap to pay for ABOS so they go on line and get NADA for free. NADA is very regimented in that it has a “one size fits all” accessory list that is suppose to work for all boats, but that it is crap. Adding a outboard motor to it is usually a pain too. I am not sure it adjusts for the area of the country you are in either. I dont expect much from NADA because it was bad 30 years ago when I was selling cars and it still is for boats. ABOS is much more adjustable over a wide range of boats, motors (O/Bs & I/Os), trailers and accessories. I will usually run a free abos for people (hard to do when it is busy) and people usually appreciate the time we have spent to get them an accurate resale value and it creates good will. I encourage the banks to use it or get a value from me because it is more accurate and many times they cannot find the right manufacturer or model anyway. Bottom line is I would not trust NADA.

My Question would be…what do the finance companies use to set average retail for used boat financing? I believe my credit union uses NADA.

99 Cougar with only 4 hours that has been in climate controlled storage. NADA average retail has the price at approximately $7200. This boat is in pristine condition. What would be a fair offer for a boat this old? Is there a formula? Thanks
