Bobsquatch , testing done on my end was with 24 Fury 3 blade with only 3 vent holes , 25 Tempest , and 25 Tempest plus , both with vent holes / plugs . — Tempest plus was all around better than the Tempest , and was kept as a spare by my brother , who also kept the Fury . ( Prop guy loves us !! ) — Fury has a totally different blade design than the Tempest , and moves ALOT more water !!! — That was why we used a 24 Fury to compare with . — As for recommended pitch , if you want more top speed , run more pitch , but the trade off is a loss on the holeshot side . — My nephew has a Pantera 4 ( closest comparison to your Pan 3 I’ve got ) with a 200 e-tec , and he’s running a 24 Fury 3 blade . — Holeshot will crack your neck , and I’ve driven that boat to 69.8 on GPS , and it was still climbing . — If you get the chance to try one , the old 25M Yamaha was a fine prop on the Mercs. as well . — This is why bass boats are so much fun !! — We just keep throwing money at them until we get what we think we’re after , then we want just a little bit more ……… Keep at it , and you’ll get it where you want it …. maybe  !?!? Just drop the motor a little. An 1/8 of an inch can make a tremendous difference in the performance of the boat. My fishing partner has an 99 Pantera 3 with a Tempest 25 and I believe he is around 3 1/2 ” below pad. I would never put a hydrofoil on a boat and I agree with you taking it off. I’ll see what how many plugs he is running in his Tempest 25. Don’t forget that there are different plug which allow a different about of ventilation based on the size of the hole.

Every time we by a boat the pair of us go to the lake with prop wrench and jackplate wrench and one of us runs the boat while the other stays in the truck. Make a run then put it on the trailer and adjust the jackplate. Then do it again until it is where you want it. You blow an hour or two but it is right from then on.

The older 200 Opti engines were not very strong on lower end in this date range. It is a fundamental difference in the exhaust plate and requires a propeller combo to get lower end hole shot.

It is honestly that simple, as long as the engine is right.

The engine seemed very strong the “one” time been on the water after booster pump replaced, other than rpm’s did not get over 5290. That was with only 2 large plugs in, prop to pad at 4″ and the foil on. This Opti is 2001, had a 2002 on a Classic for 8 yrs. and this one feels very similar? NacCat – Mike would appreciate if you can let me know how many plugs/sizes your partner is running. I put 2 large plugs and 1 solid back in the prop – will carry a drill with me for the solid pvs plug if needed, although I’m not sure if I would recognize “if needed”?

As to sea level, the Calif. Delta tidal waters where I fish over 90 % of time are as close to sea level as you can get, I believe. Right now I think I will go to all 3 large pvs plugs, nothing else and see what happens. See how it does then if no better might try raising/lowering prop up to a quarter inch and see difference. Today going from 2 large pvs & 1 open to 1 large pvs and 2 open made it a little worse getting going with chine walking starting pretty early. Will have new M/K prop on next time out though.

If the engine did not get over 5290 in RPM then you either have a larger propeller than needed or another issue. That does not indicate a strong motor. As for propeller that 25” Tempest is not going to get there and till you shift down to a smaller wheel your not going to improve this.

Here is a picture of Mark’s jackplate and prop. I realize that you need to measure form the center of the prop shaft to the bottom of the hull to get a proper measurement of motor height but this is what I could get him to send me real quick. All three holes are plugged with the same plug which has about a 1/2 ” opening in the plug.

Mike – thanks a lot but will have question. From pics those are the large plugs and though I have 2 large and 1 solid in now I can easily take the solid out and put another large plug in. But as far as prop height go’s my motor is mounted in 4th holes down out of the five. It appears if his is also mounted in 4th then his prop higher than mine and prop to pad more in the 2 1/2 to 2 /3/4″ range (which seems pretty high but that depends on which holes motor mounted in) where mine is 3 1/4″ right now. If possible can you ask him what holes his motor mounted in as I can adjust mine pretty close if he is in a different hole than mine. Thanks again for the info.!

Here’s a picture of Mark’s motor. His motor is mounted in the third hole. I’ll be down his way this weekend and try to get a measurement from the prop to pad.

Mine is in 4th hole at 3 1/4″ prop to pad and the picture above looks like he is higher than mine but pics can be deceptive. If you get his info prop to pad let me know as going out Monday morning to see if I can get on plane now? If much difference than my 3 14″ I can always adjust before going out. Since I have 2 large plugs in now and 1 solid may take solid out before I go and see what it does.

Got boat in water today. First with 2 large pvs plugs in 1 open. Prop to pad at 3 1/2″ (about 23 3/4″ per BCB recommended measurement). Got on plane without problem though slow and front end went up pretty high before settling in. Ran well but chine walked under 5,000rpm. Tried with 1 large pvs plug and 2 open, again got on plane but even slower and front end went up higher, chine walked quicker. Chine walks either way bad enough couldn’t get speed up. Bag of pvs plugs lost so came home, figure must have left somewhere – not sure next step as boat should plane quicker without as much bow rise? Add another pvs large plug to make 3 in? – drop motor down 1/4″ or ???? Thanks!

The pvs plugs have no effect either way on chine walking.

Sorry I worded wrong, I’m aware the pvs plugs have no effect on chine walking. Right now trying to figure how to get on plane a little quicker with less chine walk and think either higher or lower on prop height might help but don’t know which direction to go with current settings? Also, only me in boat today and no trolling motor on as removed 17 yr. old one and just received new 80# Minn Kota Fortrex a little bit ago so will have it on next time I try going out. Hoping to get setup a little better so can start fishing again. Really not wanting to buy another prop unless this one absolutely not going to work any better? Thanks for any suggestions.
