Need some quick set-up help on a 07 Puma 250 XS

I have a good friend that is in the process of buying an 07 Puma with a 250 Pro XS on the back with 26 Trophy, slide master jack plate with the plates set even.. He called me up horrified about the way it rode in rough water and the water was not that rough. He said that the going through waves was fine but the side to side action was un-tolerable at 64mph. I was thinking that he was trimming to much and suggested that trim no more than half at full throttle. He said that it helped some but was not enough to convince himself to buy the boat. Also stated that the hole shot was very bad. He is coming out of a 21ft Bullet and is aware that the boats are two different animals so he is willing to learn and wants the boat bad. He has a 25 Fury and a 27 T-1, I told him to throw the Fury on and I will go with him tomorrow for a couple of runs. What is a good starting point on the jack plate for the 25 Fury or should I tell to put the 27 T-1 on?I drove this boat to 76 a couple of years ago but I am not sure if the set up has been messed with. I would love to extend the BCB family by helping him with driving and setup. Leave the 26 Trophy as it will be a lot easier to drive than a Fury or a T-1. Not sure what you mean by the side to side action…………chinewalk? Either way your buddy is not accustomed to the boat and will need to get time behind the wheel. No use in adjusting anything at this point. Get some time behind the wheel!

Phil I completely understand what you are saying and will be in the boat with him tomorrow. the Trophy hole shot was crap so I was thinking that a little time behind the wheel with a better hole shot and more forgiving wheel with a beginning jack plate point would be the next step. I do not have a Puma but the Fury is a much better prop for me than the Trophy but that is on a Sabre.Elwood…..Bass Cat Proud

A Fury is the best prop for a Puma all things considered. Though it will be harder to drive on the top end than with a Trophy. Leave jack plate where its at. Lower the plate if the prop blows out too much as it comes over on plane.

I have logged some hours on my 09 puma, hyd plate and 26 fury. First thing I noticed in choppy water was what I consider an exaggerated side to side ride.Not chinewalking. Resigned myself to slow and trim down. It is less with seat time but what I consider a characteristic of the hull. Not gonna beat the crap out of my boat or myself. My other branded 20er is definitely a better ride in these conditions but overall I am a huge fan. I keep reading they will get on top of the waves and they will but I can get on bigger chop and roll a lot smoother with my other boat. Only so many things you can do..Once you get to some cleaner water it will make up time real fast….Overall the boat is incredible and I will own another one. i AM THE OPPOSITE i DONT LIKE A 4 BLADE OF ANY SORTS ON A 20 CAT. They ok on the 19s but 3 blades for me on 20s especially in a chop. Put a fury on it have better holeshot and will accelerate in the waves better when you need to as well.

25 Fury worked great today!!!! Boat had good hole shot and fair speed….73 @5800. It had more but all I wanted to do was get him comfortable with the boat at the speeds he wanted to get. Done and we have a new member of the family. Thank you guys for your help….Elwood…..Bass Cat Proud

I agree Doug I havent had much time with a 4 blade, but the fury seems to handle better to me also. Elwood when I first got my Puma FTD I noticed the side to side in chop or in current. Once your buddy gets used to the boat and has some seat time the side to side action will stop. THe boat just handles differently and has to be driven a little differently than my previous boat did.
