New 2020 Eyra is a Beast!!!

Sold my 06 Pantera Classic to a great guy up in Canada.  This is his first Cat and he is as excited as I was when I bought it 5 years ago.  I’ll let him introduce himself if he decides to.

 

Meanwhile, thanks to the advice i received from John Crews, I chose a 2020 Eyra with the 250 Pro XS.  This is my first Mercury motor.  My first one was a 150HP Evenrude Intruder and my last two have been Yamahas.

 

I’ve had the boat out twice and she runs amazing.  I was used to driving the Classic 69 MPH controlling chine.  But I am quickly learning there is a huge difference between the Eyra at 77 and my Classic at 69…lol. Going to need a lot more seat time in this beast to get her comfortably over 80.

 

So far, it fishes lighter and more nimble than my classic did.  With the trolling motor down, I’d swear she was 18 foot just from the way she responds and handles.  Had a 15 to 20 mile per hour wind in my face with gusts over 25, but never had the 112 Ultrex above 4.  Most times it stayed between 2 and 3 with no issue.  I had a 112 Fortrex on my Classic and I would keep it on 3 to 4 with no wind, and 5 to 6 in 15 mph ones.  This girl is light on her feet, even with my 350 lbs ass in her.

 

I can’t say enough good things about this boat.

She is gorgeous,  especially in the sun.

 

I am experimenting with a 4 blade right now for better rough water handling.  She comes up pretty fast with full tanks.  Haven’t filled the wells with water yet nor do I have my power poles installed.  I’m trying to get used to the flat ride since this 4 blade lifts the rear a lot.  My classic rode more nose up so it is an adjustment.   But with the 4 blade, you feel very small changes in the throttle immediately and any wheel movements are felt immediately as well.  They aren’t kidding when they say the Eyra is the sportscar of the lineup.  I think the 4 blade makes it even more responsive, including coming up out of the hole

Gorgeous!  I thought I’d seen all the different color schemes possible but this one is a little different.  Great job!  I just introduced myself to the gent I think you sold your 06 to (I have an 07 Classic) offering to help with questions but something tells me you covered most everything already.  Congrats again.  The info on the Eyra fishing like a Classic is invaluable.   I’ve been looking at used Eyra’s.  Some good deals out there.

He is a good guy and I know he is biting at the bit to get her out.  Kinda cold in Canada still…lol.

 

I’ve tried to answer all I can and will continue to do so.  I made a ton of changes and upgrades to that 06, so I know her like the back of my hand.

 

He definitely is going to fit right in with the Cat family.   He is meticulous with everything.  I just wish we could have ran her while he was here.  I would have loved to see his face when that little boat hit 68 to 69….lol

As for the prop, I it is either a Bavo I 26P or a Fury I 26P. I keep forgetting to check.

 

I get my buy one, get one free power poles installed next week. I upgraded to the blue, and added the foot pedals.  I just got the Tournament Saver Pro in the mail and the 36V Ultrex with the I-pilot link just came in as well.  I’ll add another GPS puck with the position header to the front for the bow Helix 10 since I do a lot of off shore fishing and hate using the puck in in the back when i mark something up front.

 

I’m headed to KY Lake on March 6 so I hope it is a little choppy so I can see what this girl can do and how she handles first hand.

Did the dealer choose that propeller or Basscat? Reason I ask is it appears to be the non PVS Bravo 1 and typically I thought the FS (4-hole) or XS version (8-hole) was used.

Its going look pure sexy with the blue power poles.

To the question above about PVS holes. If I am not mistaken, the PVS are not a big deal on the 4 stroke motors.

PVS Plugs are not as critical on four stroke engines which is why the SHO comes with ventless hubs developed for it, on the newer T2 Series.

They can also be an aid in heavier loads and higher elevations. From our experience that’s when the are needed.

I knew SHO comes with ventless hubs and heard people say it helps the VCT increase torque as it’s load based. Racing makes the other series vented Bravo’s for R models so wasn’t sure, though can see how it can be situation dependent.

The dealer put this prop on it.  He ordered it as his demo boat but I bought it before he could really use it.  All he had the chance to do was break the motor in.

I don’t know anything about props to be honest.  I’ve owned one evenrude intruder and two yamaha motors prior to this merc.  All my previous props were manufacture props with no holes.
