New cougar owner

Just purchased a 2000 cougar with 225 efi. The previous owner had a 25 trophy on it. It has a great hole shot but I get into the rev limiter with very little trim. I also have a 25 tempest from a previous boat, would the tempest bring the rpms down any or do I need a 26 pitch trophy? Also what is the correct height of the motor with a trophy?Thanks in advance

The 25 tempest should increase your RPMs even more. My suggestion would be to have one or both of your props reworked to reduce RPMs. A good prop guy could take off 2-300rpms and you should still have your hole shot/mid-range. A good worked prop will be much more efficient with prop slip as well. I have only worked with John Janaky at DAH and the results were exceptional for the costs. Boger props is supposed to be top rate as well, but more expensive also. You will be happier with a custom worked prop. Keep that motor around 6000rpms top end and you will be happy with the results!

If you have not already done something, you should look seriously at a Trophy 26. It will should give you the hole shot and do so without over reving. Thats what I run on my 01 cougar. Mine runs between 5800 – 6000 depending on weather. Good Luck
