New fishfinders coming? Where to put them?

Okay guys, My new fishfinders should be in tomorrow. I'm getting a Lowrance Elite-7 HDI and a Lowrance Elite-7 HDI with CHIRP Technology. Where would you put the one with CHIRP? On the Bow or Dash? Would you want to see the best detail while fishing our while looking for fish/baitfish while moving at speed? Both are Down imaging, everything is Equal other than the CHIRP Technology. For those that do not know what CHIRP is, or is suppose to be: The name CHIRP comes from the phrase “compressed high- intensity radar pulse.” That pulse is more easily understood as a long, powerful sound signal that ranges in frequency from a very low 28 kHz to a high 250 kHz. A CHIRP system separates a return echo’s frequencies to develop a very detailed, high-resolution image of targets only a few inches apart — in hundreds of feet of water. CHIRP has the power and processing sensitivity to deliver much better target resolution, clarity and crispness than any standard sonar system. #1. Improved target resolution enables you to actually see individual baitfish separately. #2. A sweep of tones delivers more data, providing a much higher resolution, clearer depiction of targets on screen. #3. Improved target resolution enables you to differentiate between big fish and tight clusters of baitfish.

Chirp belongs n the bow and a DSI Elite 7 does not belong in the console. That should be either and HDS 7 or HDS 7 Touch.

BCB,Would you mind to explain why an HDI Elite-7 does not need to be on the console? What would be the advantage for me to have a HDS 7 over the Elite-7 on the console?I guess if it is really a mistake to do it I could return it and leave the Humminbird 141c (3″ screen and no GPS) on the console until I can afford the extra money to get the HDS 7. Maybe for the reason it doesnt have structure scan. Either way its an upgrade just having GPS at the console.

It will definitely be an upgrade over what you have… I put the Elite 5 DSI in my console, and Im happy with it. For now. I bought it, b/c it had GPS, MAPS, etc… and I could afford it.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

It is a $500-600 addition to the HDS 7. I bought both Elite-7s and all necessary cabling, mapping ect. that I think I need for the price of 1 HDS7 /LSS combo package

Im sure I will. I was just afraid I missed something with the comment BCB made about the Elite-7 not being on console. I see no advantage to the HDS7 over the ELITE-7DSI for me.

I think you mean Elite 7 HDI…. not DSI. Right?If I had to choose, Id want to see more detail while im idiling and looking for fish or structure.Would it be easy to swap them back and forth (on ram mount) or are you flush mounting? Should be all the same connectors.Check out this video. I was really impressed by the power of the Elite units: And that one doesnt even have CHIRP! Yours should do even better!!Congrats on the new units.
