New twist on rod straps, pretty cool

I saw these on the 2013 bug boats. Looks pretty cool. Kinda like rod buckle offering.

Impossible to add aftermarket and would be a hard fix I believe if they ever break. I will stick with my retractable buckles BCB installs now.

This looks way more heavy duty then my rod buckles which I like and prefer. If rod buckle breaks they are economically replaceable. Doubt this one is going to break anytime soon but if it did that would be one tough son of a gun to fix. Last edited by Flyswatter on February 8th, 2013, 1:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.

My that looks enormous in the cut away. Ill just stick with the bungees or BC rod straps. Even if it can be an aftermarket install, I would a). Find someone else to install. b). be concerned with added weight in my little ol Eyra. I would guess 2.5 lbs each or 5lbs added up front. Tom, any idea on the weight ?Heaven knows I add unnecessary weight to my boat just being in it. HOman, Skeeter equals, Heavy, slow and no match for the BA Cats. Nice boats though. JignPig, Not sure on the weight. Looks industrial but Id take my retractable rod buckles. Much simpler design and weighs next to nothing by comparisons. Good luck to your fishing season.

How is this one any better than what is already out there? It is still retractable and still appears to have a tooth or latch that fits into another fitting that has been mounted on the deck. One good wave over the bow, the strap becomes disconnected and all your rods are washed over the side. Last year (2012 model) I used the retractable rod straps. I cant count on one hand in 8-10 months I had to stop the boat to retie the rods down because the straps would come unbuckled from the floor. And most of the time it was in water that wasnt rough, but in chops or boat wakey water.The straps that BCB uses has their own issue but they will not come undone and that is of utmost importance when I have about $6K worth or rod and reels on the deck waiting to be washed overboard! It takes a few seconds longer to get everything strapped in and line and hooks will find their way in or around the straps. Though, the same thing happened when I used the retractable straps. The nice thing about a strap is it can be replaced in minutes and is a very cheap replacement part. So……..why is this any better than whats out there?

Read the post again. No one said it was better. Say what? Retie? Now that is funny. Try locking them in place before you take off before you spear a wave. So how many rods did you loose? Ive never had one come undone never and have been using them since 2008 on all my BassCats. Pick your poison. Lots of options to choose from.

It should be an easy fix….all you gotta do is reach inta that big hole …….
