Non-working fuel gauge – 1990 Pantera

The dash fuel gauge suddenly stopped working, and the wiring is still connected. Any ideas on fixing the problem would be appreciated.

Measure the resistance across the two terminals on the sending unit on top of the tank. “open circuit” is bad… Would mean the sending unit needs to be replaced. That thing is 17 years old. Ive never had one last that long. Consider yourself lucky. The fuel constantly sloshes in a boat while on the water, causing the SU wiper to constantly move. Amazing they last that long. You can get em locally. Might be easier to get one from BCB since it will probably come sized correctly for the height of your tank. I bought one of the solid-state senders a few years ago (I think it was something like livorsi but I am not certain) and found it to be great, and it even stabilized the gauge pointer better when in rough water. This is usually not the actual sending unit, though it is often only the top capsule on this model. The sending units are usually pretty durable, and we would replace is with the same if it failed. Though try to get just the top plastic capsule and replace that first. You may also be able to reverse the two right and left capsules and test the opposing sender that way. Since you have two (2) fuel tanks in a P2 model. BCB

This model & year PanTera II (1990) has only one tank.

All Pantera II Models were built with dual tanks, We think that yours has either been modified or decaled as a P2 model. It is likely a Pantera Pro or Pantera Classic model with a single 27 gallon fuel tank. BCB

You may be right since I am the second owner of the boat that I purchased in 1995 from a private party, the serial number being BSAK1285F090. Regardless of the model can you tell me where to get the correct parts, for the repair. You are right about the single 27 gallon fuel tank.

You can pick up a Rochester sending unit that will have to be bent at about any NAPA store. The pre-bent models we do not stock ourselves any more. Though we can fix you up at Parts if you desire. BCB
