not getting out of hole

With full tournament load and a partner prop is blowing out before planing off. The prop I have now has no markings on it so I dont know what it is, only that it has 4 blades(boat purchased used with this prop). This rig has hydrolic jack plate and i run it just under half way and have no problem getting on plane with just myself and full live wells, and 26 gallons of fuel,I never run full fuel tanks because I dont run from one end of river to the other.Can I lower the jack plate to help in this situation? Do I need to try another prop? A friend has trophy 26 he will let me try, is this a good idea or should i try to lower jack plate and put motor deeper in water, before trying a new prop?This problem has been bothering me ever since i purchased this boat, 99 JAGUAR with a 99 225 optimax. another thing that bothers me is I fish alot by myself and this motor or prop does not have enough @$$ to push boat on trailer if you are not deep enough, and we are only talking inches here. What do you think?

Heres a few ideas – You should probably be running a 24 or 25″ trophy with your set-up, not 26″ cause the 99 optis were a little weak. You say the prop is blowing out. If it is a small hub prop, you can try a cavitation ring. I assume the prop does not have adjustable rubber plugs on the side cause you would know it was a Trophy PVS. Other than the ring, lower the jack plate a little. New prop or re-working yours are the only other options. Good luck!

This prop does have rubber plugs in and all are full. I may be useing wrong termenology with blow out maybe just getting prop spin. Anyway it goes when she starts to drop to plane out the rpms go up and the bow will not drop. Kind of like the motor is trimmed up to far, it is hard to explain without you in the boat. But thanks for the help and i will let you know if droppin the plate helps anyThanks again Bubba

I know exactly what you are dealing with. Lowering the plate about an inch or two should fix it and make sure the motor is completely tucked under when you are running a heavy load. It might also help to feather the throttle a little as the bow starts to drop. It will take a few turns to learn how much to back off the throttle to still get the bow to drop but not break the prop loose. BTW – I am almost positive that your prop is a trophy PVS if it has the rubber plugs at the leading edge of the blades. It was probably re-finished and polished which removes most of the markings on the prop. You should still be able to see the model number stamped on the side of the tube. The last two numbers is the pitch. Depending on who refinished the prop, they may have hurt the load carrying capacity that Trophies are known for. I would try to find a 24 or 25 unworked Trophy to see if there is a big improvement.

I have the same Jag / 225 EFI set up with the same low end torque problem of pushing the boat on the trailer. Did you ever find a good solution?

Totally Different!These are two totally different rigs. The 225 EFI and the Opti perform totally different. The EFI has the guts if you hav ethe right setup. The Opti has no lower end guts until 03 models. They only slightly are better from 98 up each year. The 225 EFI requires the Predator and the Opti can run the older Trophy 23 -24″ large tube for both ends. BCB
