Topic: O8 pantera 2 set up

I received my new 08-P2 in November and with all the holidays and end of year projects I have just completed the brief break in period. I am concerned about the motor height. My dealer said it should be set up pretty close to perfect, but I might be running a lighter load than they expected. During the hole shot when the boat breaks over the prop "blows out" I am trimming up/out during the hole shot. My boat is loaded with nine rods in each locker, the furthest front storage carries rain gear and life vest, the mid front storage carries twelve plano 3700 boxes with all my days tackle, my back deck boxes are currently empty / open for partners gear. I am currently rearranging the batteries to better balance the boat, cranking battery will be on the starboard with the oil reservoir, both trolling batteries will be on the port side. Running a 200 optimax with a 25p tempest plus. Shaft is 3" below pad Any set up suggestions, thanks.

Congrats on your purchase of the best 19 boat on the market. These issues are very easily resolved and you will be very happy when all is said and done. As far as your hole shot. You are running a Temptest plus prop which can be adjusted for ventilation by putting larger plugs in the pvs holes, Or by plugging a hole off completely. Also dont start trimming up until the bow breaks over. Once you get a little more familiar with your setup it will become second nature. Leave it trimmed in all the way until it breaks and is on its way to leveling off. Your boat should be a rocket out of the hole with that 25 temptest. Also a engine height that is too high will cause ventilation and can be resolved by dropping the motor height in 1/4 inch increments. Your motor height is probably very close to the right height. You should adjust the height by the amount of steering tourque you have at WOT. You can raise your motor until you start getting tourque on the wheel then bump it down 1/4 of an inch and you will be there. If you already have alot of Tourque on the wheel then try lowering the engine in 1/4 inch increments until the tourque goes away. This will also help your ventilation on hole shot. I dont think that 3″ height is going to be too high but each boat and motor is a little different. It doesnt sound like your load is excessive or light. Pretty average load for most I believe. The way you are arranging your batteries seems like the way they should be. That is how mine have been since I bought my boat in Early 2001. On another note, Most people are running either the 26″ or 27″ Trophy props on your setup. I think you may be a little happier with one of those props in the long run. I believe that the 25 Temptest will be to small for you on Top End. Hope this helps you some and I hope you enjoy your new rig as much as Ive enjoyed mine. I agree with Chris. I have an 07P2 and I am running a 26 trophy and my jackplate is exactly flush. It handles great. It is an outstanding boat. Any more questions dont be afraid to ask. Dwayne

I have an 07 PII w/ 07 Merc Opti. I have ran a 2 differenct 25 Tempests, 25, 26, and 27 Trophy. 25 Tempests and the 25 and 26 Trohpies all got into the rev limiter on top end. The 27 Trophy I could only turn about 5600 rpms in warm weather. I am now running a 27 Tempest and it comes out of the hole great and runs super on top end. I can get it into the limiter under perfect condtitions in the cool weather, but I think this prop will be perfect in the warmer months. On the holeshot, make sure you do not start trimming at all until the boat is out of the hole. Do not be on the trim as soon as you get on the throttle. If you are already doing this correctly then the PVS holes need to be adjusted. If you have any more questions or need more detailed input on this just get on here al let us know. Be glad to help!
