Chris and I found 58 degree water and shad in practice a short ride from takeoff in flooded dead grass. Chris lost a 4.5-6.0 on day one on a SK Pure Posion Chatter bait, copper blade, White/chart. that was part of our goodie bag. I lost a couple as well, we managed to boat one keeper. Day one, I was rigged for the clear water bite with lighter line, and our fish was in the back of a creek in 18 inches of water under the trash. We had the bites, but didnt exicute. Day two, we did the same, made these adjustments. McCoys big game green 17 lbs, day one, half weight fell to fast once through the trash, and when I went to 1/4oz, 1 of 3 casts I could shake free, get bit, but braking off due to lighter line. So the heavier line allowed the bait to fall slower, and muscle them out. We didnt even think top 25, we thought that everyone else was catching them as well, top 100 from 196 place would be very cool. The second bait, the one we used to trash fish an area that was 18 inches deep and 15 yards long, 20 ft wide with running water coming in was the SK rage craw pumk/chart TX rigged, it is supposed to be a trailer, its small, we downsized to small hook and used the 1/4 tungsten bullet pegged with that bait. We would catch a keeper, some shorts and move out and throw the chatter bait, and let the skinny creek reload, go back hour and half to two hours and have the same results. We went to Walmart Thursday night looking for SK products like we got. No dice. After the meet and greet, the SK rep as we were walking out after it was done, said take a couple baits from the display, we took the Pure Posion Chatter bait and the rage tail craws, something we only had what they gave us at registration. Thank you for the second bag and the other Chatter bait. The only baits we caught fish on were all given to us by Strike King. Thank You so Much for that. The rest of the story, We had 12 minute to weigh-in, we buckled up and Chris said there was floating log inbetween the motor and boat. She attempted to push the log out, it was water logged and went down easy and so did she. I got her in quickly, gave her my clothes and told her sorry, we got a limit, got go. We made it easily. I am sending out a thank you to the coach and his wife for giving Chris some warmups and putting her in their truck with heater. It was a great first tournament and top ten. Hookem
