Old friend lost in river, found yesterday.
I know some of you, especially central Arkansans, heard about an old friend of mine lost in the river on new years eve. Well, I got word yesterday afternoon that his body had been recovered floating down the river, after surfacing near where the accident happened and it was recovered several miles downstream a little while later. Frank Esry was an avid boater. A former BCB owner, and was currently running another brands HP hull,,,,on its new to him maiden voyage. He was as good a performance boat driver and set-up man as there was on the water, and had ultimate confidence in his ability. This is what ultimately cost him his life, as he was not wearing a p.f.d............... Think about it next time you put your boat in gear without one on, and ask yourself this ? How long will it take them to find you ? Eighty days ??? Thats a long time for those who cared about you to suffer isnt it. WEAR YOUR P.F.D. ! Also a big Thank You to all the emergency response people who deal with these type events,,,,,,especially Officer Spurlock, who knew Frank personally, who was also involved in the recovery. These things must be tough, and we appreciate what you do. Sincerely, D.Last edited by dbasketman on March 20th, 2008, 3:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Sorry for your loss, D. VERY true regarding the p.f.d. The hassle of putting it on isnt anything compared to the conquences of leaving it off and and an accident happening in the blink of an eye.
That is so sad… Thanks for the reminder, we can never see to many of these in my opinion. If each post makes one more person wear their jacket then it is worth seeing them again. Judd Lasiter
Sorry D. Just got my life BCB life jackets. The 3xl fits me great. They will get a lot of use and you guys do a great job of reminding everyone how dangerous boating can be and we all need to take precautions. -Lee
Sorry to hear about that. I am glad you shared this with us as we have been really encouraging the use of pfd here on the board for a couple of days /weeks now. This should emphasize to others that there is NO excuse for not wearing a lifejacket when the engine is running. It only takes 30 seconds to put on or take off. Wont miss too many casts by doing this. Again, very sorry. Alan96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Sorry about your loss…I am Fairly new to high performance bass boating,,,After reading a few threads like this lately I will make sure that Myself and my family all have their PFDs on while the big motor is running…Not just for tournaments….I read another thread where a guy had his 5 year old daughter fly out of the boat…Luckily she was wearing a PFD and was fine….I could not even imagine…
Sorry to hear that Doug. My prayers go out to the family and friends. They may be uncomfortable, but please guys & gals, wear them with the Kill switch attached!!!!!!
