Pantera 2 porpoises at upper speeds.

My new to me 2016 Pantera 2, Merc 200. Prop 24 Fury 4.Boat has power poles.I do realize its not a porpoise issue, but may be the prop slipping.It doesnt seem to do it quite as much with live wells empty. I ran it to 69.8 with live wells empty and was pretty easy to control.The hole shot and acceleration is incredible. Love the way it handles.Just not sure about the way the bow drops, than rise at upper speeds.I can trim it down to 62 mph, and it stops the porpoise. I will than start trimming up slowly, and as it gains speeds it will start doing it again.I am not over trimming as this is my 3rd Bass Cat. Im familiar with driving a BCB.Wondering if I need to play with the Jackplate. Right now its about 1/8 below flush.Anyone ever experience this? That’s not porpoise as porpoise is two tiers of the hull fighting each trying to run. Over 60 or higher performance issues on bounce is lope. Lope is a propeller not biting, or perhaps a prop slipping and not right for that hull. This also is an indication of the engine too high and bite is slipping. Yours is not too high, we don’t feel. Try a 24” Fury 3 blade. Lope is the term for what you have.

Thanks for the input BCB.I knew it wasnt a porpoise, just didnt know the correct term for the bounce. I figured it was due to prop slippage. I wonder if Ronnie could work the prop. I really like everything else about the performance. We have the double horn blast off and the boat pulled away from the other 3 Pantera 2s in the club. But the bounce caught me by surprise. It was only the second time running the boat WOT. The bouncing above 62 mph is unacceptable.

Just curious, are you running a minn kota? And, is this a new prop? Was it set up with this prop? It may have been set up with a 3 blade and you may have to find the sweet spot for the Fury 4 if there is one on that hull. I know the P2 runs a Trophy well and the Fury 3 also. Have no info to share on the Fury 4.

What JC said. Fury 3 blade a great prop for PII and old Classic. Trophy plus works too but you loose a fantastic hole shot. 24P seems small but I dont know much about the 4 blade. I run a 26P 3 blade but 25P seems to be the most popular especially in warmer climates and with PPs. Are you hitting the limiter? Have you tried at 25 and/or 26P of any of the three (Fury 4 or 3, Trophy Plus) props?

It came with a Tempest PLus 25.I never ran it with it. I put the on Fury 4 and went driving.I hit 69.8 mph at 5700 rpm. This is without water in the live wells. It does it with the live wells full.

Im no expert and would defer to BCB for setup but first thing I would do is run the tempest just to see how it runs. If your plate is below flush and motor is mounted in the normal place on the plate I have to think you are a little low. I would take a measurement on the boat to verify you are not 3″ or less below the pad. I would bet you are at least 5 or close to it. If you are not feeling torque I would go up 1/4 inch first move. If still no torque WOT Id go up another 1/8th and see if it makes a difference. Small moves make a big difference in the P2 from what I experienced. Im familiar with the situation you described. I have seen it on a P2 running a 36 volt system and MK. Never fully got rid of it on that rig. It felt to me it was nose heavy with the big TM up front but there was probably something else up with that one. Got it to where it only did it slightly on glass water. Eliminated it completely with any ripple or chop. Very hard to make suggestions without being there and eliminating anything that may look “fishy” like loose prop, loose jackplate bolts and mounting, broken motor mounts etc. Probably none of those but worth making sure.

Hole shot is similar, mid range blows the doors off, and it tops out at 69.5 @ 5950 with a full tank of fuel. Way smoother ride with the Tempest in 1.5 to 2 footers running 65 mph. Well I raised the motor 1/4 inch. The lope got worse and a lot more torque steer.I than lowered it 1/4 below flush. The lope went away but had to trim up quite a bit and got 70.5mph. Definitely had to drive the chine. I may bring it up an 1/8 and see what it does. I was surprised it helped the lope by lowering it. 4 blade props tend to want to run higher than 3 blade.
