Placement of replacement BCB velcro rod straps

Mine is right before the deck lid as you described. Though I tend to only lock down my rods before I run to my next spot.

The screw placement is rather critical to get end play on the buckle and allow the strap to fold properly. It seems simple, though play with it before you mount it and you will figure it out. The image dblplasabre has above should help. Dont bind the buckle by having the screws too far out though get the finish washers flat and close.

I put the velcro straps on the rod locker lids for one reason you mentioned – being able to open the rod locker lid with rods secured. Then I also got the bungee style located in front of the lids where the reels lay to secure rods during rough water condtions or traveling down the highway. During fishing the bungee straps just lay along side the gunnel of the boats – they have never gotten in the way or anything. Works good for me.

This is why I love this forum and why I bought a BASSCAT! Nowhere else will you get this kind of owner interaction or manufacture support. Ive already determined from these posts that previous owner accidentally mounted the straps with buckle reversed (along the port/starboard side vs towards center of boat). Ill play with locating straps both ways and see which is best (before I tap more holes). Only concern is that with 7+ rods, am concerned mounting on lid will secure them too far down the rod away from the reel (where the weight) is and not be as secure. Adding bungees is a great idea! I bought this boat for a great price and have already put more than $4k into it (new HB SI/DI front and rear, new decals, new TM, new tires, on and on) but love it! When not fishing, hanging out in the garage with brown water fiddling around with the boat and tackle is almost as good. Plan to continue to upgrade and baby this boat over next year or two and then buy a new Eyra or Puma (Jag wont fit in my garage ). Thanks again for the insight! Any other ideas are welcomed!

Old thread but I just bought two of the velcro rod straps for my Sabre. Im not sure I have room for two but bought them anyway. Is the install as simple as just screwing them in to the deck with the washers? I understand they need to be spaced correctly, any suggestions on the spacing? I assume I just put two screws by the buckle an the other two by the bend on the other end? Would you guys recommend keeping the rubber strap also? Thanks, Im very picky and I have a fear of drilling holes and screwing something up! Fold the strap three layer with two bends properly locating the buckle turned as it would be pulled under tension. You can easily see location of the screws once you view the folded strap and dont get one on top of the buckle itself as it needs some looseness for movement. These are great rough water straps.
