Joe What are you trying to accomplish by polishing your prop?

polishing actually hurts performance a tiny bit. Ditto for the pad on your boat. Best finish is a very very fine roughed-up finish, which makes it easier to separate the water from the surface. If you check out some racing hulls, you will see the bottom is dull rather than shiny because they have used fine sandpaper to rough it up a touch which actually makes it more slippery, which is somewhat counter-intuitive… polished props certainly look nice. But give me bead-blasted ones anytime for that tiny bit of extra speed…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

I was at Choke Canyon over the weekend, I see this guy in a Ranger who had just pull out at the boat ramp putting wax and polishing his SS prop. I didnt think that was right. Than I was surfing other board and saw the same question was been asked. I knew I could an honest answer here. Thats a different kind of “polishing”. That is more of a “cleaning”. Polishing is a bear of a job with a large cloth wheel and lots of polishing materials. But just cleaning the prop with wax or whatever wont do anything other than make it look clean. The prop will burn that off quickly when you get on the throttle… It makes it look better, does absolutely nothing else however except waste money.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
