power to depth finder

?I just purchased a Lowrance Elite 9 ti. I have read on this board several times about the electronics not getting enough voltage and cutting off. Would it be better to run a new power supply straight from the battery or to locate a hot wire under the dash? Just wanting to do it right the first time so I dont have to do it all over. Thanks

It depends on the boat model and which dash as to how the circuit protection works. There are several diffrent setups and we need more info. as to year, model, dash assembly and then we can help.

Go straight to the battery with an inline fuse to protect the device. These things are drawing upwards of 5 amps when running. If you have two at the helm as most do, thats 10 amps right there. I have a bird 787 that came wired to the dash wiring. It continually complained about low voltage. Pulled wire from the battery and problem has completely vanished.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
