PowerTech TRO4 25P on my Puma, +++

Ive tried several Trophy Plus props on my Puma/Merc Opti 225, both 25P and 26P. Ive been using a Trophy Plus 25, and I like it, but thought Id try a Powertech TRO4 25P, because Ive always had good results on previous boats with TRO4s. I like it! It gives my Puma better bow lift than any prop Ive tried yet, and is awsome at all around handling/performance. I used it up on Erie last Wednesday, and it bits VERY well in rougher water. I havent actually tried WOT with it yet, but Ive had it around 65ish with it, and it definately has more bow lift at that speed than the Trophy Plus props. Up till now, Ive only been able to go to around the 4.8 trim reading on the smart gauge, at high speeds with the Trophy 25, without overtriming, but can go to around 5.2 with the TRO4. Its probably going to be a bit faster prop, it seems. Just thought Id pass this on to other Puma owners out there.

Will do! Live in Ohio, so its getting a little cold, so the rpms will be a little higher than normal of course. This prop will rock in warmer months for sure! Should get out a couple more times before the dreaded “winterizing!”

Correction: After reading my post, I seen a mistake. Ive been running the Trophy Plus 25P at around the 4.6 reading on the smart gauge, not 4.8. and the TRO4 at 5.2. with roostertail height at top of cowling. Also, TRO4 seems to have less tendency to walk at higher speeds.

Did you make any jackplate adjustments when you switched props. I am told that the tro4 can run a little higher than the trophy.

Not yet. I am told the same. Im running the plate where the back half of the plate is 1/4″ higher than the inside. Problem is, Im running out of time for adjustments because of time of year. Ill really know everything about this prop next season, but from the short time comparing it to the Trophy 25, I like the TRO4 better.

I have a 25p Trophy on a 2004 FTD with a 225 Optimax. I just traded a 26P trophy for a PowerTech 25P VMX. I havent tried it yet but I will be testing it out soon. I will post the results then.
