Prop performance for 07Puma w/ ProXS 250

Just wondering what is the ideal prop setup for my Puma w/ Merc 250 ProXS? I have heard conflicting advice….Tempest Plus vs Trophy Plus. I am looking for the best top-end speed. Also, how many vent plugs should I remove on the prop. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,mark

Mark, I think you will find the Tempest may give a nod at best top end speed and the vent plugs will make no difference at WOT.

Mark,Ive never run a Tempest on a Puma, but in the Trophy props, either a 26 or 27 p, depending upon your load.And, Ive found the best set up for hole shot to be no cavitation ring, with 3 holes completely blocked, and a small open plug in the 4th hole.Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN

Some folks have preferred a Tempest on this rig, though BCB has only suggested a Trophy for the application. Those individuals preferring a Tempest have simply shown their experiences. We feel the Trophy has always out performed the Tempest overall. BCB

Both are top of the line props. Users decision. I have had customers who wanted me to put one of each on and not let them see what I put on. Back up in my stall at 101 Boat Dock where I do my test runs. Some can tell the difference and some cannot. SEAT TIME is where it all comes to together

I like the Tempest it outperforms the Trophy in every category in my opinion. I have a hard time getting my boat on the trailer with the Trophy also.

There are pros and cons to both.I prefer the Tempest (27) if for no other reason but the way it loads on the trailer. It might be a grunt faster but not enough to talk about in my opinion.The Trophy is a better handling prop and will get more bite in rough water. It seems you dont have to drive it as much.Tempest for me…you need to try them both though and make your own decision.Judd LasiterPS – On my Tempest I had all the plugs pulled except 1 had a large hole in it.

Trophy for handling not only at top end speeds, but in rough water. Rough water is waves/rollers greater than 4 in height. If you are an inexperienced driver I would also recommend a Trophy in that it is much more forgiving. From my experience the Trophy has outperformed any Tempest that Ive ever had on a Puma or FTD. Never had a Tempest that would do over 80 with any load. Ive had 3 different Trophy props that would. So the notion of the Tempest being faster is FALSE! If you trouble loading your boat with a Trophy the fix is simple…………..back your trailer in the water deeper!

Phil has set it straight. I have ran 25 tempest then 25 trophy and lost 1/2 mph. Seat time Seat Time Seat time.If you are having trailer loading issues I have never heard anything about the prop being the reason.Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
