Prop / pitch selection for new 175 proxs

I do not have a Sabre, but with the 4 strokes, I am betting 26 will be too much. I am running a 24 on my new P2 with the 200 and have not seen 5,800 rpm yet.

The 150Pro XS has 2.08 gearing and the 175Pro XS has a 1.85, if we assume the extra 25hp equates to an extra 5mph then you’d want to run a 25” pitch BravoXS on the 175 to turn the same rpms as the 26” pitch on the 150 as they both have 6k rpm rev limits and assuming the same prop slip as seen on the calculator below. I haven’t run a Bravo XS, but would like to give one a try. Let me know how yours runs, congrats!

So far best on my 2020 sabre is 23p 4 blade trophy.  Dont overload the front of the boat, heavy tackle in rear boxes and I get 67 mph @5940 rpm.

Damn those are some impressive numbers! I’ll look into the four blade . The 175 comes with the 3 blade 23p correct? .. thanks for the reply!

Dude, leave the 23P(I assume a fury).  I got 66mph empty on my 2022 Sabre and fully loaded, two anglers and 33 gallons of fuel I still got 66.  I have yet to break 5700 RPM’s and I have been told that the motor will gain more after 50 or so hours.  My point is leave the boat alone until you use if for some time.  Now 66 is ‘TIME’ running and getting the boat to sit on the pad.  Once this happens you will go from about 63 on up.  I feel that I should get get 68- 69 down the road.

A four blade will get you out of the hole faster, but not as fast on top end.

Thanks for the input man ! I’ll run that 23p fury it comes with . I’m going from a 40hp tracker grizzly to my new Sabre I know I won’t be pushing the limits of it for a while anyways until I get used to it lol

Curious if anyone has tried a 24 Tempest on a new Sabre with 175 Merc 4 stroke?
It’s the best load carrying prop on my Sabre with 175 2 stroke.  It turns 6020 rpms Smartcraft with just me in it in the Summer to about 68.5 mph.  It’s 68.0 @ over 5900 rpms with me and a buddy (combined weight 440lbs).  This is with about 3/4 fuel and the motor dropped 1/4” below flush on the plate.  I pack light up front, but I’m heavy in the rear.

A few years ago, there was a guy “Midnight Rider” on this forum who had a Sabre FTD with dual consoles and 175 Yamaha SHO.  He experimented with props.  A 25 Bravo XS ran well to near 68 ish solo if I recall.   He sent Ronnie Gilbert a 24 Tempest to tune, and he reported well over 69 mph solo ~ 5900 rpms.  This was with a near full tank of fuel.   I would think the new Merc 4 stroke 175 would be at least as fast as that 175 SHO.  Like me, he had a Fortrexx 80 TM.

24 would probably be too much on the 4 stroke. It’s universal to come down in pitch on the same hull from 2 to 4 stroke.
