Prop Question re: Tempest 25P 3 blade

What should a used 3 Blade Used 25 Pitch Merc Tempest apparently blue printed prop go for; I have found the performance I was looking for on my Puma with this prop but it does not have sharp edges, no dings or burrs and a dulled finish; I have had problems with a four blade 25″ Trophy Plus as far as performance; this guy wants to sell it to me; any help would be appreciated; thanks in advance, Don

You can buy a brand new prop like that for around 400.00. To me it would be worth less than that !!Hope this helps. Joey

Thanks Joey; What differentiates a blue printed prop from a regular one? And how can you tell by looking at the prop; also should the edge be sharp?

Will not mention any names but they charge for blue printing and the prop still has factory edges. I also have heard of people actually loosing speed and rpms after blueprinting.When a prop has been blueprinted your chances of having it fix after hitting something become slim. I recommend blue printing a prop when you send it off the get fixed. 400 dollar prop 300 blue print job for 2 mph or 3. Leave a minute early.Have done many of runs with different motors and boats, (by for I am not a professional boat tester driver) but the tempest is the fastest prop I have seen come out of the box.Ballistics are fast also if you ever take close look at one the factory edges are very thin.

Like Gabe said, to me and you it is very hard to tell that a prop has been blue printed. You are better off with a known good prop to start out with. Most of the time, once one has been reworked you take something away from that prop. People that know what they are doing can some times make one run a little better than a prop that is brand new by balancing the baldes or by adding or taking away pitch and cup. Lots of work, time and effort goes in to this though and not everybody cam make this happen. Sounds like Gabe is getting a pretty good handle on all of this. Have noticed a difference in his words and his knowledge sense first coming to this board. Good LuckJoey

Thanks Joey!!It has been a crazy year. Sometimes when you try to do to much its like your hub being spun. Back only workin 50 to 60 hours a week instead of 90 to hundred. So much more to learn! When I got trained I just worked never was told what went to what. Not the mans fualt that trained me we were busy and had to get work done. I truly thank Rick Pierce and the basscat family for the knowledge I have acquired from this forum.Hope all is well and it will be fishin time before we know it!

Thanks Joey & Gabe for all of your input; this helps alot and dittos to Gabe for looking forward to learning a bunch more from this great sight; despite how long many of us have been fishing (for me it is 30 plus years) I still do not know jack about the mechanics of stuff with boats and props; just enogh to be dangerous! ha! Ha! I sure had great performance on my Puma w/225HP Opti with this 3 blade 25″ Tempest prop vs. the 26″ Trophy Plus four blade that I had trouble getting out of the hole with! The motor even sounds better;

How does this compare to a 26 tempest? I run one on a classic and still turn 6000 rpms.
