Prop Selection with New Merc 250 4 Stroke

We are using a 24″ or a 23″ and it is a decision on weight.

Mercury is not recommending anything, this is a boat company indicated suggestion.

I have been reading that the new Pro XS V-8 has been fitted with a 23p or 24p prop. My 2017 Cougar FTD with a 2 stroke Pro XS runs a 25p as most others do. I thought the new motors had more torque. Why do they need a prop with less pitch? I have been considering a repower because I like the idea of better low and mid range power but now I am confused. Please help me understand this.

Still playing with my 4 stroke, but motor is faster than 2 stroke out of hole with a worked 26 fury than a 2 stoke by far. Actually plenty good with live wells full , light fish load, 2 people, 3/4 gas, and poles. However it was slower than 2 stroke at same rpm as the 2 stroke. 26 was basically same as 24 fury on top end. The 2 stoke seams to produce its power at a lower rpm range than the 4 stroke. The hole shot and midrange is amazing from the 4 stroke!! I haven’t played with it much but did put the 24 back on from what I’ve seen so far.
