How to i get rid of prop slip ,when i ride with my boat something i see the rpm go to 7000 rpm for no reason and no alarm or nothing come on then back up on the pedal goes back to where it should by , is my motor to high?
I would check 3 things.1) check your tach if you are exeeding max rpm on modern engined you should be getting a warning so if the tach is malfunctioning maybe you would not be getting a warning. Can you hear the engine revving up?2) Check your prop hub it may be slipping and getting ready to completely fail.3) Analyse when you get the slip is your prop coming out of the water over big waves hard corners etc? try a prop with better bite and or lower the engine. Is this a new problem or one you have always had> Moer info would be helpfull.Irv
I would be looking at the tachometer malfunctioning have a dealer put it on the computer it will tell you if the engine over reved. On my Opti you will get a horn when you exeed the red line and it is loud, that is why i suspect your tachometer. It may also be other electrical gremlins voltage regulators etc. but now I am out of my depth and would let someone else diagnose. As you dont hear a horn and dont hear the engine rev up then i dont think it is a mechanical problem but an electronic problem. I still wouldnt ignore it. It may cause other damage to sensitive (read $$$$) components.Irv
An Opti can not spin over 5850 in the electronics control module, so we suspect a tachometer error. We assume you have analog gauges and not Smart Craft.
yest i do have a analog tach gauges , on mercury web site it says pro xs 175 get 6000 rpm! Last edited by marty on August 12th, 2010, 3:55 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have an 08 175 pro xs on my Sabre. I do believe your tach is not accurate. I have had an old tach and one that was fairly new that were just plain wrong. Take it to your dealer and have him/her plug it in and youll see what your high rpm really was. I usually see 5800-5900 rpm w/25 tempest plus on my “standard” Sabre.
